Getting a tattoo for the first time can be an exciting and meaningful experience, but it can also bring some anxiety. That’s why I’m here to help!

This is a small guide to what you can expect when getting your first tattoo. Some of these steps may vary from one tattoo artist to another, so your experience may differ as well. Always look for a tattoo artist you connect with, and you’ll see that everything will go smoothly.
It’s very important to carefully choose the design you want to get inked. Look for a design that holds special meaning to you or one that you really like. If you don’t have a specific design in mind, trust your tattoo artist—they know how to bring your idea to life.

1 – Before Tattoo Day!
There are a few things you should do before your tattoo day. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and, if you can, use a moisturizing cream on your skin. Avoid alcohol as it thins the blood, which can lead to excessive bleeding and make the tattoo process more difficult and painful. Drinking alcohol can also affect the healing process of your new piece of art, potentially causing it to heal improperly. Also, avoid fast food or greasy foods in the days leading up to your tattoo.
With the anxiety, it can be difficult, but try to get a good night’s sleep—7 to 8 hours the night before your tattoo is ideal.

2 – The Tattoo Day Has Arrived! What Do I Need to Do?
The day has arrived, and you’re super excited because you’re finally getting that tattoo! So, get ready! Wear comfortable clothing that doesn’t restrict your movement. If your session is long, you’ll likely be in the studio for a while, so bring snacks and water to keep you energized during breaks.
When you arrive at the studio, think about which part of the body you want your tattoo. Some areas are more sensitive than others, so take that into account. If you have any doubts, don’t hesitate to ask your tattoo artist—they’ll guide you through everything.

3 – During the Tattoo Process:
During the tattooing process, the artist will clean and disinfect the area where the tattoo will be placed, minimizing the risk of infection. Then, they’ll apply the stencil, which will give you an idea of how your tattoo will look on your body and the size you’ve chosen. Don’t be afraid to ask the artist to adjust the stencil placement. If you don’t like it or aren’t confident about the spot, ask your artist for their opinion.
Tattooing can be painful, but the intensity varies depending on each person’s sensitivity and the area of the body chosen. Generally, the pain is manageable. Depending on the size of the tattoo, there may be breaks during the process. However, if you feel you need a break during the tattoo, just ask your artist.

4 – After the Tattoo is Finished:
Once the tattoo is complete, the artist will clean the area again and cover it with a film to protect it on the way home and during the healing process. It’s important to follow the aftercare instructions your tattoo artist gives you to ensure that your tattoo heals properly. In the following days, the tattoo may look a little swollen or sore, but this is normal. You might also experience some itching during healing. The key is to avoid scratching or picking at the tattoo to prevent skin damage and fading of your tattoo.

5 – In Conclusion:
Overall, getting a tattoo for the first time can be a rewarding and unique experience. Make sure to choose a trustworthy tattoo artist and a design that you truly love. Follow the aftercare instructions and respect the healing time to ensure that your tattoo stays beautiful and healthy. Over time, your tattoo will become a permanent and meaningful part of you.
